Presentation Overview:
Successful volunteer initiatives don’t happen by chance, they’re the result of thoughtful planning, strong partnerships, and effective project management. This session pulls back the curtain on what it truly takes to plan and execute impactful volunteer projects between corporate and nonprofit partners. Attendees will gain practical insights, real-world examples, and proven tools to navigate challenges, align stakeholders, and deliver meaningful experiences that strengthen employee engagement while creating lasting community impact.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Compare traditional project management approaches with purpose-driven volunteer project management to identify strategies that maximize employee engagement and community impact.
- Plan volunteer projects using project management principles that align corporate social responsibility goals and nonprofit mission alignment to foster rewarding collaboration.
- Measure and communicate impact using metrics that show value, CSR benefits, and potential tax advantages.
Group Activity: Plan a year-long volunteer engagement plan of four quarterly connected projects, each building on the last to align with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals, build employee morale, tackle high-impact initiatives!

Speaker - Shawn Ewing Shawn Ewing, M.A. is the Director of Corporate Engagement and Volunteers for Volunteers of America (VOA) Texas. She has extensive experience in project management, event planning, fundraising, and building strategic partnerships. Shawn has led collaborative initiatives with organizations including Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, ExxonMobil, Charles Schwab, KBR (formerly Kellogg, Brown & Root), Hilti North America, The Home Depot Foundation, Sigma Alpha Gamma Military Fraternity, and the Houston Texans (NFL). She resides in Texas and is the proud mother of one adult son. |
