In project work, success often depends on people changing—adopting new processes, shifting priorities, or aligning with goals. But resistance isn’t about unwillingness; it’s often a protective response, or a signal that the cost of change feels too high. This session helps leaders understand what’s really happening underneath resistance and how to respond in ways that increase engagement and movement.
 
Learning Objectives: 

  • Understand why people resist change beyond surface-level explanations

  • Recognize protective/defensive responses in teams

  • Identify how the perceived cost of change impacts behavior

  • Apply approaches that reduce resistance and increase buy-in

Dr. Jamie English is a licensed therapist, supervisor, and educator specializing in trauma, relationships, and systems thinking. She teaches at the graduate level and works with individuals and professionals to better understand human behavior, resistance, and change.
